"All the cool without the drool"

I must say, you have truly never lived until you have stayed up all night. But I don't mean the all-nighter you spent with your girlfriends, painting each other's nails and doing each other's make up. And I don't mean the all-nighter you pulled with your boys back in 8th grade when you guys played Xbox all night. I'm talking about the all-nighter where you sit on your ass and do work...work that's due like the next day.

I didn't plan on staying up all night tonight, I kinda just hoped I would do work until I passed out...and I kinda hoped that right now would be the time I'd be counting sheep. But here I am, going strong at 3am on March 22nd, 2013, blogging about my experience. I know I'm going to hate myself tomorrow when I'm dragging my ass to class, struggling to keep my head up and eyes open, but in this moment I feel great. It feels good to be where I am at right now: I'm writing, I'm getting shit done, and I'm suffering now for what will pay off in the long run. I think nights like tonight are nights we will all have to grapple with at some point in our lives (if you haven't already). The suffering may seem like it's unbearable, but you'll get to sleep later. What's the famous quote? "I'll sleep when I'm dead."

There are always going to be days where you want to sleep, or where you want to give in and give up and put off your life until tomorrow, but the harsh reality of it all is that there is someone out there working while you sleep. Just remember that. The next time you are getting ready for bed and there is still something you need to work on or finish up, remember that the only way it's going to get done is if you get off your ass and do it. Ultimately, it's your life. The power is in your hands. That's what my dad always said. He also said to always be proactive, and to know that nothing is ever going to get done if you don't get off your butt and do it. So this is me being proactive, staying up all night, grinding to make tomorrow a better day than today.
